Traffic Explosion…NOT!

Ok here I was minding my own business, working on the stuff that needs to get DONE. Which is plenty actually. And well I got slightly distracted and chanced upon this website/blog. I have no intention of being mean here but pardon me for this just in case you get offended.

The author talked about how his website konked out under the tremendous traffic it was getting. And there I was using the SEOQuake Plugin (www.seoquake.com) on my browser which returns me parameters like Pagerank, Alexa ranking etc. And I was point blank staring at an Alexa ranking of 900k.

I know Alexa ain’t the holy grail of web traffic estimation but it cannot be that far off, can it? So I wasn’t too sure what the author was talking about. So this was what I gathered…

1) He’s on a really lousy webhost that cannot take the pressure of a few visitors (Right…)

2) Alexa is broken and lying through its teeth (Right…)

3) He’s lying through his teeth and hopes nobody notices it (DUH!)

4) Or he’s talking about another website that he owns. Though the question remains, if he is selling traffic generation tactics, why can’t he employ the same tactics on his current website?

If you cannot stand the suspense, you can view the blog post at
http://trafficsecretsreport.com/blog/?p=24

But if point 3 is really true. It really irks me to see what some people will do just to earn a quick buck online. Lying and all that probably happens alot on the internet but I guess somehow I’ve been lucky enough not to be conned.

Anybody else faced similar experiences like this before?

Hi Bill,

Yes perhaps some of the information was pretty good. But I wasn’t commenting on the quality of his blog postings. But more importantly his traffic claim which was debunked.

Its like comparing apples to oranges. Totally unrelated. So I’m not too sure which part of my post confuses you.

I’m not too sure about you regarding ethics. Its one thing to have heavy traffic, then claiming your webhost went down when it didnt’t. Yes this would be a marketing tactic in some ways…but to claim that without any traffic. That’s just an outright lie don’t you think?

That post looks so like a marketing gimmick for Traffic Secrets Report.

But you know what, Alvin, I think it’s possible to get high spikes in traffic even if your Alexa ranking is nonexistent — this can mostly happen if you’re featured in the social bookmarking main pages like Digg and StumbleUpon. I stumbled John Chow’s post once and received a 300% spike in traffic.

So if that site really did go down because of heavy traffic it could be the combination of what I’ve mentioned plus your point #1.

Thanks for dropping by my site, by the way. Cheers!

Yes, many people online lie all the time, sometimes I wonder if they know that they themselves are lying! Haha.
